NA2 - Facilitate the HPC Ecosystem: next tasks

In order to accomplish the goals of the WP3 NA2 - Facilitate the HPC Ecosystem, three tasks have been defined:

Task 1 – Coordination Board with HPC Ecosystem
Contacts have been established with DEISA and PRACE. Regarding DEISA, was included the proposal for running in HPC-Europa2 the scientific evaluation of those applications coming from DECI5 (in DEISA) that do not correspond to any DEISA partner. The outcome of this evaluation was very interesting, both for DEISA and HPC Europa2. This good result is demonstrated by DEISA2, as HPC-Europa2 will provide the same service for the next call for DEISA Extreme Computing Initiative (DECI6).

In relation to PRACE, extending the information in D3.1, it must be mentioned that has completed the deliverable D4.2, related to peer review, which includes in its statistics and information those coming from HPC-Europa2. Nevertheless is not sure whether the peer system defined will be in place when PRACE will start providing services to Tier 0 in 2010, so, in order to help PRACE, HPC-Europa2 will offer (as many others) PRACE the option to run a complete or a partial (most likely) peer review process. In next yearly deliverable, further information of the process to provide this service to PRACE and the results will be described.

Also PRACE and DEISA, management board and executive committee, respectively, will be invited to the next SUSP meeting (scheduled for June, 2010 in Helsinki) for better understanding of the process and methods used in HPC-Europa2 for the peer review system.

Task 2 – Evaluation access service provision, selection procedures, tutoring and training

This task has no evolution and progress besides the described in D3.1. All the analysis and methodology for further improvement of the methods used in HPC-Europa2, will be implemented in the next SUSP meeting.

Task 3 – Users Coverage Enlargement

With the aim to establish the PoP of Portugal, representatives of BSC and HPC Portugal have discussed about the partnership between both organizations and have exchanged mails regarding the scope of the HPC-Europa2 project.

The response of HPC Portugal has been positive and BSC plans to deploy the next steps: schedule “in person” presentations in Portugal to consolidate the relationship between keypersons, participate in face to face meetings with the counterparts in the host country and establish, jointly with Portugal, the metrics to quantify the increasement of presence of HPC Europa in Portugal.

The HPC-Europa2 project is funded by the European Commission - DG Research in the Seventh Framework Programme under grant agreement n° 228398
