Welcome!

Welcome to the 'HPC-Europa2 at CINECA' web page!

HPC-Europa2 is a consortium that offers Transnational Access to European researchers.

If the project is new to you and you are interested in knowing something more on what we do, please please look at the general project web pages.

If you wish to apply for a visit grant and if you intend to spend a research period in one of the 6 centres around Europe, please have a look at the transnational access area, read the guidelines and then fill in the on-line form.

This is the only way to apply for the project but if you have any question you can contact us e-mailing to access@hpc-europa.org.

If you have already submitted an application and you have received communication from the project staff that your request has been accepted, in these pages you can find information about CINECA and about the organization of your stay.

If your application has been accepted by the Scientific Users' Selection Panel we will contact you in a short time in order to arrange your visit to Bologna.

WE OFFER TO OUR VISITORS:

- access to one of the most advanced high performance computing facility in Europe
- collaboration with scientific hosts outside CINECA in a huge variety of research fields
- technical and scientific support from our internal researchers with large expertise
- accomodation in our HPC-Europa apartments
- travel and living expenses
- logistical support before and during your stay

Some pre-visit arrangements: once you have been contacted, as soon as possible, before starting your visit you are requested to send us your name, surname, address, date and place of born, a copy of your passport or identity card, an electronic picture of yourself. This will allow us to speed up the registering procedures once you arrive at CINECA reception.

Please tell us the exact date and hour of your arrival so that we can manage to welcome you. Please try to schedule your arrival from Monday to Friday between 9.00 am and 17.00 pm. For different moment please contact us…we will arrange your welcome if possible.

You will receive well in advance a file containing information about refundings and living expenses grant.

During your stay: CINECA is located in Casalecchio di Reno, a small town near Bologna. The Bologna airport is not far from here (10 minutes by taxi). From both CINECA and the apartments you can easily reach downtown Bologna by bus (see the bus transports timetables and map (pdf)) and by train (very useful -10 minutes) from the stop called Ceretolo to the main Bologna railway station. The train is called Suburbana and with a common bus ticket you can reach Bologna. Look here for the timetable.

Bologna is a very welcoming town. At the links below you will find some useful info about the city and what it offers!

Before you leave CINECA or immediately after the end of your stay, you have to submit a short paper of around four pages, in order to report the work performed during your stay. It will be published in HPC-EUROPA2 annual directory.

You are also asked to produce an abstract of it (250-400 words), to be delivered to the EC, including two sections: objectives and main achievements including difficulties encountered.

All this information should be uploaded by yourself onto Your HPCEuropa2 account at CINECA (where You submitted Your application - if you have problems with your login or password please feel free to contact us).

Please use the templates provided.

The European Commission and the consortium of HPC-Europa2 ask you to fill in two questionnaires:

- One HPC-Europa2 questionnaire available in Your HPC-Europa2 account for our internal quality control
- One regarding Your stay on the EC web-site

Two specific questionnaires

In the field User Project Acronym you should fill in Your tracking-number assigned to your application by HPC-Europa – please inquire your tracking number if you don’t know.

All the info about reports and questionnaires requested are available in your personal HPC-Europa home page.

The HPC-Europa2 project is funded by the European Commission - DG Research in the Seventh Framework Programme under grant agreement n° 228398
