HPC-Europa experience at EPCC

Over its four-year lifespan (2017-2021), the HPC-Europa3 consortium expects to support 1.220 researchers, with 200 of those planned to be hosted by UK. The calls for applications will be issued 4 times per year and published online on the HPC-Europa3 website. Visits are organised in the same way at all centres, and the application and selection processes for Transnational Access as well as post-visit reporting are organised at the consortium level. Some pre-visit arrangements 

As soon as possible after you have been notified that your visit has been accepted, please confirm your exact visit dates.  Please do not book any travel until the dates have been agreed with both EPCC and your research host.  You may also need to take into consideration any recommendations from the selection panel which are stated in your acceptance letter.

You will receive well in advance further information about the process for paying your travel and living expenses.

Please send us an electronic photo of yourself as soon as you can after your visit has been approved, in order for us to request a university visitor card for you.  This photo should follow the guidelines, but note that you will not be able to upload the photo yourself.  Please also do not complete the card application form yourself – this will be managed by EPCC.
Most visitors bring their own laptops to use during their visits.  Please let us know as soon as possible if you will not be able to bring a laptop with you, so that we can try to arrange for a computer to be available for you in your office.  Please also let us know whether you would prefer a Linux or Windows environment, although note that we cannot guarantee to provide your preferred choice.

During your stay

EPCC and many of the participating host departments are located at the King’s Buildings campus, approximately 2.5 miles / 4 km south of Edinburgh city centre.  This is easily accessible by bus from most parts of town (see  bus routes and timetables).

Edinburgh is a beautiful and lively city, much visited due to its many historical monuments, world-famous international arts festival, and natural beauty.  It has recently been ranked 2nd in the world among major cities for quality life and Edinburgh has been identified as the UK city with most green space.
